Description:
In the conditions of mass and large-scale production of high-precision castings, rods are used from mixtures that are hardened in contact with hot tooling. The use of this technology, in comparison with dry molding, makes it possible to increase labor productivity, reduce mixture consumption, and improve the surface finish of castings (Ra = 1.6-42.5 μm).
Binders in sand-resin mixtures are synthetic resins.
RCS have a number of advantages over sand-liquid glass mixtures:
– easy removal of cores (they spill out when the castings are knocked out of the mold);
– high productivity of the process with a contact time with hot rigging from 15 to 60 s;
– the possibility of regeneration of waste mixtures.
The cladding of the sand-resin mixture is carried out in a hot way. In hot cladding, the resin is liquefied in the mixer by the hot sand. With vigorous stirring, the resin envelops the grains of the foundry sand and, upon subsequent cooling and stirring, solidifies on the grains in the form of a thin film. Cladding makes it possible to obtain mixtures with high physical and mechanical (by 25–30%) and technological properties. For the preparation of sand-resin mixtures, enriched quartz sands with a clay content of no more than 0.5% are used.

Purpose:
Resin coated sand are used for the manufacture of shell molds and cores used for casting metals.
